Why OpenTracker exists
Because trading journals shouldn't cost $29 a month forever. Because your data shouldn't live in someone else's database. And because no journal on the market will actually stop you from revenge trading.
OpenTracker started as a frustration. Every journal wants a monthly fee to show you numbers you already have. They lock your screenshots, your notes, and your history behind a paywall. And when you stop paying, you lose the tools you built your routine around.
Worse, none of them address the real reason traders blow accounts: emotion. The best analytics dashboard in the world will not save you in the 90 seconds after a stopped-out trade when you click “buy” again out of spite.
So we built the journal we wanted. One that treats your psychology as the primary metric. One that is open source, so it can never be taken from you. One that is honest about what trading actually is — a long game of discipline, not a sprint of P&L.
Three principles
Every feature in OpenTracker traces back to one of these.
Process over P&L
A losing trade that followed your rules is celebrated more than a winning trade that broke them. The only thing you control is process — so that is what we measure.
Emotion is the primary signal
Tilt, fear, and FOMO are not noise to filter out. They are the data. OpenTracker treats your mind state as a first-class metric, right next to your equity curve.
Own the stack
MIT licensed. Self-host it on a $5 VPS or run it on localhost. Your trades, your habits, your mistakes — they never leave a machine you control.
The founder
OpenTracker is built by a trader who got tired of journaling in spreadsheets and paying for tools that measured the wrong things. The first version was a Notion database. Then a Python script. Then a full app — because the problem deserved a full app.
It is open source because the best version of this tool is the one a thousand traders improve together. Your edge case is someone else's edge case. Fork it, ship the feature you need, and open a PR.
Built by traders, for traders.
The tech
No black boxes. No proprietary runtime. Next.js 14 with the App Router, TypeScript strict, Prisma, Supabase Postgres with pgvector, Shadcn/ui, Recharts, and Framer Motion. Six pluggable AI providers so you are never locked into one.
